ADOPTED: Operates a Voluntary system of Alcohol labelling with a self-regulatory code dating back to 1986. The non-mandatory labelling recommended by the government includes warnings such as: ‘drink in moderation’, ‘drinking alcohol during pregnancy or nursing may adversely affect the development of your fetus or child’ and ‘drunk driving is prohibited by law’. According to new 2015 legislation, for Japanese wine products, the name of the area can be only used on the label, if more than 85% of grapes come from the one area.
